论述了袁同礼晚年目录工作的具体情形,介绍了其各种目录著作的概况。认为袁同礼晚年目录著作的特点是:搜集范围广、查考出作者的中文姓名、完善每条目录的细节、编制方法灵活。它们具有工具价值、线索价值和学术积累价值。袁同礼的目录工作体现出的奉献精神、考证精神和实践风格是值得学习的。
